Social Media Policy

Connect Smart is led by the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet. Here you can find the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet’s Social Media Policy in respect to Connect Smart.

Connect Smart’s social media accounts are maintained and updated by the National Cyber Policy Office in the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet.

Why is Connect Smart using social media?

Like many other public awareness campaigns, we will use social media to keep people informed about cyber security and ways to protect yourself online. We hope that our channels will:

  1. inform you about scams, cyber security issues, consumer issues and anything else we think you should know about
  2. supplement information published on our website and in press releases
  3. keep you informed of upcoming events, campaigns, alerts and news
  4. link with other government organisations, private companies and NGOs in New Zealand and overseas
  5. extend the reach of our existing communication channels and further engage with people in New Zealand.

We are also aware of the ever-changing nature of social media and Web 2.0, so these goals will be regularly reviewed and updated if necessary.

Contact us if you have:

  • a formal request, comment or enquiry
  • a response to an item published for public comment

Will Connect Smart respond to messages on social media channels?

We will aim to respond to as many messages as possible but please understand that we will only be accessing our account during business hours.

If your matter is urgent please get in touch.

Why isn’t Connect Smart following me back on Twitter?

At this stage, Connect Smart will only be following major stakeholders, our partners and sponsors, other NZ government and overseas government and other counterpart agency accounts - please do not take it personally. This is so we can best manage our time and the account. Please let us know of any organisation that you think we should be following.

Connect Smart, social media and your privacy

Occasionally we may invite you to take part in a survey, provide feedback or sign up to email updates. Connect Smart’s Privacy Statement governs any information we collect from these activities.
